Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) play a key role in promoting active citizenship, participatory democracy and building cohesive societies, targeting the needs of and empowering specific groups, including those most at risk of inequalities, exclusion and discrimination. NGOs are also instrumental in engaging in advocacy and policy formulation, as well as raising awareness of key issues and challenges in today's societies.
who can apply for the NGO programme
Non-governmental organisations in the beneficiary states can apply for grants. Nigerian NGOs and other actors can be a project partner.
when will the NGO fund be launched?
NGO Funds will be established in all beneficiary states.The NGO will be launched in 2015.

what are the priorities of the NGO programmes
Democracy building, human rights and anti-discrimination are important priority areas in the NGO Programmes. In addition, environment, health, gender, cultural heritage and providing accessible services to the most vulnerable in society are crucial. In addition, 10% of the NGO funds will be set aside for child and youth-drive organisations or activities
